YNPN San Diego Board of Directors reviews applications in the spring and fall of every year. Board terms are for one year beginning in the spring (March) and the fall (September).   • Recruit and nurture emerging leaders to serve the nonprofit community.
  • Establishing organizational structure: Internal and external committees, ad hoc teams.
  • Capturing best practices through policies and procedures.
  • Creating strategic partnerships throughout the nonprofit community.

Emily Davis, Founder and Board Chair


At this time, Emily Davis, is the founder and a board chair for YNPN San Diego. Emily relocated to San Diego from Boulder in early 2008. While living in Boulder, CO she served on the Denver YNPN Board of Directors and has seen a great need for a YNPN Chapter in San Diego. Emily began her career working in the field of ending violence against women more than 10 years ago as a community activist, victim advocate, and trainer. In addition to focusing on women’s health and sexual assault, she became involved in environmental and international issues. In 2003 she was awarded the Boulder County District Attorney’s Victim Advocacy Award.

Since Spring 2007, Emily has been serving as a nonprofit consultant and philanthropic advisor to various individuals and organizations through her company, Emily Davis & Associates Consulting. She has served on numerous nonprofit committees and boards in Colorado and recently completed her Masters of Nonprofit Management from Regis University. She continues to pursue grassroots projects in the local, national, and international communities from San Diego, CA.

Emily recently completed innovative research on intergenerational issues within the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. She travels nationally and internationally presenting the topic and her research on emerging leaders within the nonprofit and philanthropic communities.

Caitlyn McTaggart, Secretary


A native San Diegan, Caitlyn McTaggart currently works as the Development Director for the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA in Encinitas. Her responsibilities include overseeing all fundraising activities for the branch, including major gifts, grants, annual giving, corporate giving and planned giving. Prior to accepting the position with the YMCA, Caitlyn worked as the Development Coordinator and the Foundation and Grants Manager for the YWCA of San Diego.

Caitlyn has a B.A. in Communication and Professional Writing from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a M.A. in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from the University of San Diego. She is currently involved with various community organizations including the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Rotary and the San Diego Hunger Coalition.

Jeremiah Sacksteder,CPA, Treasurer


Jeremiah currently serves as the controller of the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego. Prior to relocating to San Diego in July 2007, he worked in public accounting for eight years, managing the audits of nonprofit organizations and privately held for-profit corporations. His professional affiliations include membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Emily Bhatti, Member At Large



Emily Bhatti has been working and volunteering for nonprofits since 2003. She currently works for the San Diego Symphony as the Major and Planned Giving Officer. Prior to relocating to San Diego in June 2007, she was with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in Indiana as the Donor Relations Associate. Emily is passionate about encouraging support of the arts and the importance of arts organizations in communities.

Emily has a bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration with a dance concentration from Butler University in Indianapolis. Following a stint in New York City pursuing a dancing career, she returned to Indianapolis and began her career in the nonprofit sector. While in Indianapolis, Emily was a founding member, Core Artist and volunteer Development Director for Motus Dance Theatre, an emerging modern dance company. Emily is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals San Diego Chapter.

Lenise Andrade, Member At Large



Lenise Andrade was raised to help others, from attending anti-war marches with her family as a toddler to stuffing envelopes with her dad while he worked in public television. A Los Angeles native, she spent much of her youth volunteering and raising funds for various charities, never imagining that people did it for a living. She has a bachelor’s degree in English and Education from the University of Southern California and is working on completing her Certificate in Fundraising and Development through UCSD’s Extension program. She also spent several years in education, working as a substitute teacher and as a teaching assistant in a day care.

Lenise began her nonprofit career with Poets and Writer’s California Programs, coordinating their events and public relations in the Los Angeles area. She continued working in the nonprofit arts funding arena by consulting for Red Hen Press and Write Girl, helping them advance their fundraising efforts. She then ventured into environmental concerns at Heal the Bay, organizing numerous annual events, working with corporate and major donors and overseeing the retail line. In early 2007, she moved to San Diego to join the Development Department at the Zoological Society of San Diego. She works primarily with major donors, focused on fundraising efforts for projects and exhibits at the World Famous San Diego Zoo.

Megan Lim, Vice Chair


Megan Lim has nearly a decade of nonprofit experience and recently joined the San Diego Public Library Foundation as their Development Director. Prior to which she served as the Capital Campaign and Major Gifts Manager for Girl Scouts, San Diego - Imperial County where she oversaw the organization's successful $5.5 million capital campaign. Megan began her career working as a development intern while still a student at Bowdoin College in Maine and she continues to hold leadership positions as an elected member of the Alumni Council and as President of the Bowdoin Club of San Diego.Megan's work experience also include fund development and environmental science for a Boston-based nonprofit.

Megan is actively involved in several community organizations, including the Junios League of San Diego, and is a board member for both the San Diego Chapters of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN).

Joe Buehrle, Member at Large



Joe Buehrle currently serves on the staff of the San Diego Association
of Nonprofits. He relocated from Michigan in the fall of 2008,
bringing over ten years of experience in the nonprofit sector. His
career includes positions in workforce development, child welfare,
mental health, and grassroots community organizing. Joe is
particularly passionate about multicultural, interfaith, and
inter-group relations.

Joe received a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan
with a minor in Management. There as a Community Based Initiative
Fellow he concentrated his study on “communities and social systems”
while serving as a community organizer at low income housing in urban
Detroit. Published work includes the article “Just Us” or Justice,
shared in the Commission for Social Justice Educators June 2008
newsletter The Voice.

Mariel Berry, Member at Large



Mariel Berry has nearly ten years of experience working and volunteering in the nonprofit sector. As a Washington, D.C. native, Mariel moved to San Diego almost four years ago for an Americorps Promise Fellow position at Volunteer San Diego. During her year of service, she coordinated new service opportunities for youth across San Diego County, and helped develop a service and leadership club model for youth groups across the nation. She is currently the Development Officer for Arts & Culture Initiatives at San Diego State University. She is an active volunteer at a variety of community organizations including, Girls on the Run, and is a board member for the San Diego Young Nonprofit Professionals Network. Mariel is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Secondary Education (CASE).

Mariel holds a B.A. in Art History from St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Laura Stein, Member at Large




Laura B. Stein currently works as the Assistant Director for the University of San Diego’s Institute for Nonprofit Education and Research. Laura is responsible for the administrative management and coordination of the Institute for Nonprofit Education and Research which includes the Nonprofit Leadership & Management Program, Caster Family Center for Nonprofit Research, and Institute-sponsored community events.

Laura has a B.A. in English from Florida State University, and a M.A. in Higher Education Leadership from the University of San Diego. She is a member of the 2009 LEAD San Diego class.

Jaci Feinstein, Member at Large




Jaci is the Service Events Manager at Volunteer San Diego, where she is responsible for the coordination, development and implementation of corporate volunteer events and special events of Volunteer San Diego. Prior to coming to Volunteer San Diego, Jaci worked for Procter and Gamble as a Packaging Engineer in Cincinnati, Ohio. After spending a year serving our nation through AmeriCorps, Jaci decided to stay in the nonprofit sector when she accepted her current role at Volunteer San Diego.

Jaci graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Business Administration.

Jessica Rodgers, Member at Large


Jessica Rodgers was raised in San DIego and left to attend Scripps College, an all women's school in Claremont, CA. With a degree in sociology, Jessica entered the nonprofit arena as an Administrative Assistant at Oxfam America in Massachusetts, where she was an active member of YNPN Boston. Upon her return to California, Jessica got her teaching credential and spent some time teaching in the field of education. She turned again to nonprofits by joining the Communications and Fundraising Committees at YNPN San Diego. The network was a strong support system through which Jessica found work at Volunteer San Diego as a Program Assistant.

Again, through support she found from colleagues in the nonprofit world, Jessica has recently become the Office Assistant at 211 San Diego. There, she schedules meetings for the CEO and has the opportunity to meet various nonprofit and governmental personnel throughout San Diego. Jessica is also playing a strong role in volunteer management to support the Office Coordinator. In her spare time, Jessica enjoys volunteering, baking, cooking and finding new and exciting restaurants to eat at with good company.

Cynthia Skogerboe, Member at Large



Cynthia Skogerboe is the Senior Staff Manager and a Consultant with NP Strategies, a 501(c)3 management and consulting firm serving the nonprofit sector. As a Consultant, she has worked with numerous direct service organizations, public entities and foundations in a wide variety of strategy engagements. Specific client projects have ranged from leading the development of business growth and strategic plans to capacity building assessments for strategic grantmaking collaboratives. Cynthia also manages the internal operations and personnel for the organization. Prior to NP Strategies, Cynthia worked in operations at General Mills, Inc. where she managed the largest East Coast grocer account, Ahold, and specialized in operations management and supply chain efficiencies. In addition to being an active community volunteer, Cynthia chaired several employee committees including the Tri-Healthalon Group, Newcomers Network and Communications for the Asian-American Committee.

Cynthia received her Master's in International Affairs with a focus on Latin American International Development and Nonprofit Management from the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at the University of California, San Diego and a BS/BA in both Management and International Business from Drake University. She is a READ/San Diego Adult Literacy tutor with the public library's literacy, English as a Second Language and family free literacy program for adults
